Richard Hayes

Richard Hayes, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Shepherd's Cove in Albertville, AL. A proud alumnus of Emma Samson High School, Richard was a prominent local businessman in Gadsden. Beginning his career at the age of 15 under the mentorship of Kenneth Ellis, Richard later seized the opportunity to acquire the business, which he transformed into what is now known as RH Motors—a place filled with countless cherished memories. In addition to his success with RH Motors, he was instrumental in the development of Sunset Golf and partnered with numerous individuals in local car dealerships and various other ventures. Richard was known for his relentless work ethic; he thrived on staying busy and finding new ways to engage in his work. His generosity extended beyond business, as he took great pleasure in making charitable contributions and sponsoring many Little League baseball teams. Throughout his life, Richard found profound satisfaction in helping others. He was dearly loved and respected by many. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved aunt Mable Bradford, whom he regarded as a mother, as well as his parents, Gloria and Warren Hayes, and many other family members and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his family: Alice Hayes, sons, Neal (Rosie) Collins, Tyler (Raylene) Bowen, and Brady Collins; his most favorite person, Kendall Bowen (granddaughter); Alicia (Alan) Kimbrough, Wayne (Jenna) King, Travis King, and many more cousins and extended family; close personal friends, Alicia “Dynamite” Swindell, Jeff Badgett, Ricky “Jelly” Autwell, Carl Lewis, Jeff Wright, Truman Works, Luther Abel, Larry Howard, Scott Skipper, Mike Bullock, Joe Horton, Mateo “Chino” Alonzo, Bobby Fugatt, and many more that has passed on; also left behind is his favorite baby girl, his dog Launa. Pallbearers will be Neal Collins, Tyler Bowen, Brady Collins, Eduardo Ramos, Mateo Alonzo, and Tony Graves. A special thanks to Shepherd’s Cove in Albertville and to all the family and friends who came to show support and love to Richard and his family during this difficult time. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024 and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Village Chapel. Burial will follow at Union First Congregational Cemetery, Boaz. Pastor Greg Bledsoe will officiate. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
