Mr. Mickle Neal Claude Asa Couch

Neal Couch died July, 8th, 2017 under a full moon. He was born August 19th, 1952 and grew up in Gadsden & Morgan City, AL. He attended Emma Sansom High School and was a member of the Army National Guard, stationed at Ft Knox. The family welcomes friends & loved ones to gather from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Tuesday, July 11th at Village Chapel Funeral Home, with graveside service & burial to follow at Mt Olive Cemetery in Arab, AL at 3pm. Neal is survived by his sister, Margret Prickett; daughter, Laura Couch Lis (Scott Payne); son, Jeremy Couch; grandchildren, Devin & Shawna Couch and Jefferey Bartley, as well as former wife, Pamela Garrard Tidwell, cousin Marie Shaddix & family, and beloved "MawMaw" Mary Garrard. He is also survived by his former wife Sandra Whitley and her children, Amanda, Michael & Laura, grandchildren John Michael, Kyle, Asa, Kayla & two great grandchildren. Neal was preceeded in death by his parents, Myrl & Hollis Couch Sr, Verla & Hathrow Whisenant and brothers, Hollis Jr & Roger Couch. Neal joined the National Guard as a teenager and began driving a truck for a living not long after he was legal to do so. He loved truck driving almost as much as he loved his family. While he could never put a number on the amount of miles he had covered, it was well into the millions, with only one accident (not his fault) in over 40 years. He served as the assistant fire chief of the local fire department in his home in Hardy, AR and in his spare time enjoyed driving buses of rafters to their destinations for South Fork Ranch. Once his driving days were done, he found himself working in wheat fields in Dexter, Missouri. He loved old country music, independence and his family. His strange sense of humor, his honesty, his strong work ethic and his generous heart will be missed by so many more than mentioned here. He gave freely of his opinion, his time and his heart and those are gifts that we will forever cherish. Pall bearers will be Jeremy Couch, Scott Payne, Michael Prickett, Terry Alldredge, Charles Whisenant and Curtis Whisenant. The family would like to recognize Jessie, Cody & Matt with the ICU staff at Gadsden Regional, as well as the staff at Shepherd's Cove Hospice, for their incredible compassion and care during these long days. We can't thank you enough. In lieu of flowers, although they will be welcomed, the family asks that you make donations in Neal's memory to your local volunteer fire department, The Humane Society Pet Rescue & Adoption Center or Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.
