Mrs. Kay Richardson Lee

Joan Karene (Kay) Nix Richardson Lee, 72, was called by The Lord to her eternal home on June 22, 2015. She is survived by her mother, Virginia Nix Jordan; daughter, Kathy (Blair) West; grandchildren, Abbey and Carter West; sister, Annette (Hugh) Willingham; brother, Jeff (Nancy) Nix; husband of the past seven years, Wallace Lee; stepsons, Chris (Jena) Lee and Mike Lee; step grandson, Matt Lee and sister-in-law Joyce (CD) Hawkins. She is also survived by nieces, Kristen (John) Bedwell & Gina (David) Rains and nephews, Greg (Ramona) Willingham, Mark Willingham, Josh (Candice) Nix and David (Maria) Hawkins as well as four great nieces, eight great nephews, numerous cousins and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by Bill Richardson, her husband of 44 years and her father, Denford Nix. Kay was born in Horton and raised in Gadsden, graduating from Emma Sansom High School in 1961. She worked for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System's Etowah County Office for 25 years where she touched the lives of many through the "Diet's Our Thing" and "Today's Mom" programs. She served her community over the years through the Etowah County Homemakers Club, Girl Scout Troop 617, the 4-H Club and Master Gardeners. Kay was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, where she traveled to the Dominican Republic with the mission team in 2011 and enjoyed serving others locally through the Open Hands ministry. Her family and friends were her greatest loves, second only to her love of The Lord and in living her life to fulfill His purpose. Funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Village Chapel. The Reverends Randy Gunter and Roger Wilmore will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Williams Southside Memorial Park following the service. Village Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be John Bedwell, Josh Nix, Blair West, Carter West, Greg Willingham and Mark Willingham. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the medical teams at Gadsden Regional, UAB neuro ICU and Noland Hospital as well as Dr. Jason Ayres, Amy McGlaughn, CRNP, Dr. Stephen Higgins and the countless number of friends who have supported the family through prayer and deed this year during her extended illness and progression of dementia.
