Mrs. Virginia Ann Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022, at Village Chapel for Mrs. Virginia Ann Smith, 79, of Attalla, who passed away at her home surrounded by her family on May 19, 2022. Rev. Chase Dowdy will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Virginia was born January 31, 1943 in Gadsden, AL to Louie and Mable Cline and she was the oldest of six children. Virginia married W.C. “Weasel” Smith on September 10, 1960. They had three daughters, Lisa, Amy and Melanie. Virginia was involved in many church, school and civic activities. She, along with fellow church member, Hub Wells, established the church bus ministry of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Attalla. Virginia worked as a room mother, PTA officer, and first aid nurse while her girls were in school. She was a dedicated Councilmember for twenty years to the citizens of District 4, and also served on the Attalla City Water Board. She was devoted to her community and loved the citizens she served. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Etowah County Democratic Women’s Club, 310 Board, and a lifetime member of the PTA. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, W.C.; daughter, Amy; her parents; her mother- and father-in-law, Cecil and Willie Smith; sisters, Kay Mitchell and Debbie Bennett; brother-in-law, DJ Jones; and sister-in-law, Kim Cline. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Patterson and Melanie (Rodney) Bartlett; grandchildren, Brandon (Candice) Patterson, Nathan (Crystal) Patterson, Dylan Bartlett and Madison Bartlett; great-grandchildren, Noah and Knox Patterson; brothers, Jimmy Cline, Benny (Wanda) Cline, Randy (Sherry) Cline; brothers-in-law, James Mitchell and Mike Bennett; and sister-in-law, Barbara Jones; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Nathan Patterson, Jason Bennett, Scott Bunch, Darrell Green, Jason Bartlett, and Chris Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Mayor Larry Means, Councilman Joe Hereford District 4, and all employees of the City of Attalla. Special thanks to Gadsden Regional Home Health, Hope Hospice, Fresenius Kidney Care, and special friend, Shirley Kline. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, and also an hour prior to the service Monday.
