Mrs. Louise Lee Johnson

July 7, 1922 - August 15, 2017

At midnight on August 15, 2017, Louise Lee Johnson put her hand in The Nail Scarred Hand of her Lord and Savior. She walked down to the altar at Dwight Baptist Church in 1934 while this song was playing. Louise was born in Keener on July 7, 1922 to Robert and Elsie (Naylor) Lee. She grew up in Alabama City and graduated from Emma Sansom High School, class of 1940. She married Walter Hugh Johnson that same month and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May 1990. Two weeks after Hugh’s death in 1992, she suffered an intracranial aneurysm, was flown to Emory for surgery, recovered and was a blessing to her family for the next 25 years. Louise was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher of 6, 7, and 8 year olds at Dwight Baptist Church for many years. She loved flowers and to garden and won the Gadsden Beautification Award for her yard when she was 75 years old. An incredible seamstress, she would make clothing for her sisters and nieces for Easter, Christmas and school, without a pattern. A beautician for 40 years, she worked out of her shop attached to her house, and had many of Alabama City’s ladies as her customers. She counted many as children of her heart; her Sunday School students, her nieces and nephews, and her sisters, Ruby and Sue. She was a reflection of her Savior in her kindness, gentleness, love, strength, humility, joyfulness, and compassion. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Johnson, and her parents, Robert & Elsie (Naylor) Lee. Survived by her sisters, Ruby (Harold) Smith and Sue (Samuel) Riley; nieces and nephews, Nancy Costello, Jen (David) Chrisman, Misti (Clint) Wells, Michelle Wood-Capolino, Christy Costello, Kelly (Michael) Polk, Lindsey (Tyler) Bertsch, Kyle (Becky) Chrisman, Josh, Jason, and Rachel Wells, John Capolino, III, Amelia and Anton Bertsch, Kacy Chrisman, Wayne (Becky) Minton, Teresa* (Gary) Gilbert, Carolyn and Buddy Preston, Fred* (Jan) Johnson, Marthell White, Margie Woodall, Dwight (Margie) Johnson, Walter (Sandy) Johnson, Jerry (Pat) Creel, Dwayne (Pat) Creel, Hank (Jennifer) Creel, Wilburn Preston, and Dorothy Maze. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Dwight Baptist Church in her name. Visitation is Saturday from 4 pm to 6 pm at Village Chapel. Funeral service will be held Sunday 3 PM at Dwight Baptist Church. She will lie in state Sunday from 1 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be Monday 11 AM at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Daryle Nichols will officiate.
