Mr. Larry "Poppy" Long Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church for Larry “Poppy” Long, 78, of Gadsden, who passed away on Tuesday, June 7th, 2022. Jerry McCright and Rev. Roy Daugherty will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Larry was a devout member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and loved God. He worked at the Steel Plant for 25 years. After retirement, Larry enjoyed woodworking, camping, and spending time with his family. He was an avid Alabama football and Atlanta Braves fan. His favorite things were being in the sunshine, seeing his great-grandbabies run through the door, and listening to his love sing. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Bonnie Long; and son, Wade Long. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Long; daughter, Kristi (Ed) Hamm; granddaughter, Kelsey (Aaron) Todd; grandsons, Joshua (Ashley) Hamm and Caleb Long; great-grandchildren, Anastasia, Sophia, Jaxson, and Rhett. Pallbearers will be Keith Glenn, Gary Daniel, Aaron Todd, Josh Hamm, Caleb Long, and Darin Long. Special thanks to Kindred Home Health for taking care of him for the last 2 months, and also to the SICU staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
