Mr. Jack Partee

September 15, 1930 - December 24, 2017

Funeral Mass will be held at 2 PM, Friday, December 29, 2017, at St. James Catholic Church for Jack Partee, 87, Gadsden, who died December 24, 2017. Father Jose B. Chacko will officiate. Graveside committal will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Partee was born and raised in Alabama. At an early age he joined the Army Aircorp. After serving in the Army Aircorp, he went on to join the United States Air Force SAC (Strategic Air Command). He served in World War II and received the Victory Medal. He served in the Japanese Occupation and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. Mr. Partee also received the Good Conduct w/3 loops Air Force Command Award. In addition he served in Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, England, North Africa, Guam and the Phillipines. He retired after thirty years of military service. He then came home to Alabama and began a career as a deputy with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department. While a deputy, Mr. Partee was named Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the year 1973 and in 1993 he was named Office of the Year. Mr Partee retired from the Sheriff’s Department in 1995. After retirement from the Sheriff’s Department, Mr. Partee drove a trolley for the city of Gadsden. Mr. Partee held an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Gadsden State Community College. He attended the Police Academy at Jacksonville State University, where he was elected class President by his peers. He also attended Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission and received training from the Alabama Association for Mental Health. Mr. Partee was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post 8600, a lifetime member of the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch, and a honorary member of the Etowah County Rescue Squad. Mr. Partee was greatly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, being with his family, and attending mass on Saturday. He was a loving man who always was there to help his family and friends. Mr. Partee was a preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Frank Partee; brothers, Frank Jr., Dawson, and Max Partee; and sisters, Margaret Peyton and Maudine Davis. Mr. Partee is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joan Partee; children, Frankie (Vickie) Partee, Beverly Colegrove, Steven Partee, and Sandy (David) Knight; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-granchildren. Pallbearers will be United States Military Personnel. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons, grandson, and great-grandsons. Special thanks to Dr. Courtney Lowe and Deb, and all the physicians and health personnel who have taken care of him, including Riverview Regional Medical Center and Alacare Home Health and Hospice. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 PM until 8 PM at Village Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Partee will lie in state from 1 PM until the time of the service Friday at St. James Catholic Church.
