Mrs. Bennie Guthrie

May 19, 1928 - August 3, 2021

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at Village Chapel for Bennie Guthrie, 93, of Gadsden, who died Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Rev. Mike Cleckler will officiate. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Bennie was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and she was a very good cook. She started taking piano lessons when she was 8 years old, and by age 12 she was playing piano in churches. For several years she served as church pianist at Cathedral of Praise, where she was also a member. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Guthrie was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Guthrie; parents, Aubrey “A.L.” Horton and Gladys Horton; and son-in-law, J.T. Pollard. Bennie is survived by her husband of 77 years, Truman Guthrie; daughter, Fredrica Pollard; son, Brent (Vanessa) Guthrie; grandchildren, Christy Pollard, Keith Pollard, Adam (Lesley) Guthrie, and Erin (Dan) Lockridge; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Troy (Kathy) Horton and Myron (Wanda) Horton; and a host of nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her caregivers, Beverly Bellew and Sheila Knight, and to the staff of Encompass Hospice; and also to Dr. Castillo and the staff of Northeast Hematology and Oncology Associates, especially Candace Roberts. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of the service Friday.
