Nettie Gwyn Gunter

Nettie Gwyn Herring Gunter, 82, of Gadsden AL, passed away on March 1, 2024. A funeral service for the immediate family and close friends of Mrs. Gunter will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at East Gadsden Baptist Church, Gadsden AL. Rev. Adam Smith and Paul Harbison will be officiating. The burial, for friends and family, will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens, Rainbow City, AL. Village Chapel Funeral Home will direct. Mrs. Gwyn Gunter was born on June 1, 1941, in the countryside of Butler County, to Rev. William Roy and Mrs. Mable Herring and was the oldest of their 4 daughters. Mrs. Gunter graduated from Cullman High School, Cullman AL, then later moved with her family to Graceville, Florida. It was in Graceville that she met and married Joel Emmett Parish in 1963. Together they had 3 children; Willis (died 1964), William and Victoria. After the divorce from Mr. Parish, Mrs. Gunter went on to marry James (Jim) Henderson Gunter of Ozark AL in 1980. Jim had a son, Randy Gunter, from a previous marriage. Together Gwyn and Jim had another son, Timothy. They celebrated 7 years of marriage before Jim Gunter’s death in 1987. Mrs. Gwyn Gunter was a very devoted mother to her children and grandchildren, a devout Christian woman and was well respected. Mrs. Gunter was also an avid fan of softball and was a pitcher for Graceville Hospital STATS team, Graceville FL. She wore many hats while working; a receptionist, a bank teller, and an owner of a country western shop. She retired in 2009, where she worked for East Gadsden Medical Clinic, Gadsden AL. Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by both of her parents, Rev. William Roy and Mrs. Mable Herring; her husband, James Gunter and her son, Willis Parish. She is survived by her children, William (Marty) Doty, Victoria Gunter, and Timothy (Hayley) Gunter; her grandchildren, James Adem (Madison) Gunter, Riley Gunter, and Luna Gunter; her sisters, Bettina Reaves, Cindy (Paul) Harbison, Sheree (Kenny) Watts and 7 nieces/nephews with 9 great-nieces/nephews. The pallbearers will be Adem Gunter, Aaron Moss, Seth Harbison, Micah Harbison, Leo Baltz and Marc Green. Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care. The visitation will be from 11 to 12p for family, 12 to 2p for public and the funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at East Gadsden Baptist Church followed by the immediate funeral service.
