Mr. Millard Dee "Pete" Smith

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Village Chapel for Millard Dee “Pete” Smith, age 75, of Altoona, who went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 27, 2017. Brother David Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Saul’s Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith was born on February 25, 1942 in Gallant, Alabama to Wallace Lee and Maudie Smith. He later joined the United States Navy in 1959 and served honorably until he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in June of 1979. Mr. Smith was owner and operator of Coosa Valley Appliance Service for 28 years until he had to retire because of poor health in January of 2012. He attended Bethlehem F.C.M. Church in Walnut Grove, where he especially enjoyed listening to Lori Smith’s singing. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Maudie; brother, Enoch Anderson; sisters, Yvonne Smith, Rebecca Merritt and Rachael Vinson. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marie Smith of Altoona; daughter, Brenda (Stephen) Ingram of Piedmont; son, Lee Smith of Altoona; chosen son, Sam Clayton of Altoona; granddaughters, Lindsey (Gunnar) Smith of Huntsville, Meagan (Junior) Morrow of Piedmont; grandson, Jacob Smith of Altoona; great grandchildren, Dustin Morrow and Isabelle Morrow of Piedmont; brother, Richard (Carol) Smith of Gadsden; brothers –in- law, Robert (Judy) Clayton, James (Lena) Clayton, Danny (Vickie) Nelson, Garland Clayton, Wilton (Betty) Clayton, William (Brenda) Clayton and Charlie Clayton; cousin and chosen brother, Roy Smith of Gallant and a host in nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be Paul Burchfield, William McIntyre, Wilton Clayton, Jamie Clayton, Gunnar Talton and Timothy Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-law and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. H. Patel, Dr. Narayan, Mark McIntyre, Dr. Whang and Dr. Kwan, The 4th floor nursing staff at Riverview Regional Hospital. The staff at Physician’s Choice Dialysis Clinic, especially Dana and Toni. Alacare Home Health nurses, especially Shannon, Thomas, and Meagan. Visitation will be from 6 PM – 8 PM, Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Village Chapel Funeral Home in Alabama City.
