Mrs. Marjorie Stone Davenport

Marjorie Stone Davenport went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 31, 2017. She was born in April 1921 in Ft. Payne, AL to the late W. A. Stone and Effie Campbell Stone. She left Ft. Payne at the age of 18 for Gadsden to work in Cone Mills where she met her late husband, Deward Davenport. After the mill closed, she went to work at EMCO East where she retired. She loved working in her yard and traveling with the Rebel Camping Club and Elliott Senior Center. She was a long time member of Dwight Baptist Church and loved traveling with their senior group. In addition to her parents and husband, Ms. Davenport was preceded in death by her step-mother Lera Stone; brothers Creed Stone, Floyd Stone and Ray Stone; sisters Hazel Wood and Jean Carden. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Sandra Davenport of Rainbow City; daughter and son-law Becky and Ron Smith of Gainesville, GA; grandsons John (Betty) Davenport of Birmingham, AL and Andy (Jana) Box of Maiden, NC; grand-daughters Cynthia Davenport of Gadsden and Ashley (Jonathan) Collins of Gainesville, GA; great grandchildren Jakob Davenport of Birmingham and Jack and Bianca Collins of Gainesville, GA. She is also survived by brother W. A. (Rita Sue) Stone, Jr. of Signal Mountain, TN; sisters Faye Shraub of Rossville, GA; Polly Roden of Chattanooga, TN; Opal (Jim) Sunderland of Ocean City, MD; and Ardath Grizzle of Birmingham, AL; sisters-in-law Mildred Davenport of Austell, GA and Doris Brooks Curtis of Royston, GA; many nieces and nephews as well as her best friend Ozella Langley and special friends Mitchell Chastain and Donald Shuler. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at Village Chapel Funeral Home. Reverend Daryle Nichols will officiate. Interment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted. The family would like to give special thanks to Caregivers Penny Godfrey and Stacy Gibson; Margaret Cornelius and Betty Brooks of Dwight Baptist Church Outreach; 8th Floor Nurses at Gadsden Regional Hospital; Paden Ridge Assisted Living; Amedysis Home Health; and Gentiva/Kindred Hospice. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
