Mr. Jason Brian "Jay" Newton

A memorial service will be at White Springs Baptist Church at 6 PM Tuesday, 29 August, 2017 for Mr. Jason Brian (Jay) Newton, 50 years of age, of Rainbow City. Reverends Todd Clough, Michael White and Joey Jones will officiate. A private burial will be held at Rainbow Memorial Gardens at a later date. Mr. Newton died at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, AL on Saturday, August 26, 2017. Mr. Newton was a resident of Rainbow City. He was born in Southside, AL. He was a graduate of Southside High School class of 1985 and Auburn University, class of 1992 where he was a member of The Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Jason proudly played football under coach Randy Ross. Jason was a member of the Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church. After working in sales for a number of years he returned to the family tradition of skilled masons where he was a valued member of Newton Construction. Jason’s life was a enriched by a host of special friends scattered across the United States. Friendships which grew more special with the passage of time. To know Jason was to love him. Jason is survived by mother, Sarah Phillips and Step-dad, Cedric Phillips; brother, Joey (Lori) Newton; nephew, Declan Newton; special cousin, Sheila White; extended family, Harley (Dana) Phillips, Haley, Haven, and Hayden Phillips; Dee King, Ray (Lorena) King and Alexia; Lexie Stephens, David, Seth, Justin Brandon, and Michaela; Steve (Jackie) Ezell, Stephanie (Chris) Parsell, Jon and Joe; Brandy (Hue) D’ang, Lena and Ragan; Marie (Jonathan) Arlege and Lilly; The Newton family and the Thrash family. Jason was preceded in death by his father, Myron (Don) Newton; grandparents, Fred and Audrey Newton, and Oscar and Cora Thrash; nephew, PFC Barry Stephens; and Sue Ezell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the White Springs Baptist Church special fund in memory of Jason Newton. The family requests the Southside Class of 1985 serve as Honorary Pallbearers at the Memorial Service. The family wishes to express very special thanks to the staff of Shepherd’s Cove Hospice who made Jason’s transition to a better life much easier. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until the time of the service at the church.
