Mrs. Carol L. Gladden

Funeral will be held at 11 AM, Friday, June 24, 2016, at Village Chapel for Carol L. Gladden, 63, of Gadsden, who died Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Rev. Philip Elliott will officiate. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Carol worked at the Holy Name of Jesus Hospital for many years, then for the last 27 years she owned and operated her assisted living home. She is now reunited with all of her little angels that she cared for over the years. For many years, Carol and Mike welcomed many foreign exchange students from all over the world into their home. Each one of them has become part of their family. She has been blessed with the opportunity throughout the years to go to a lot of their homes and visit with them. Carol never met a stranger, she was full of life, and she loved her Lord, her family, her friends, and especially her grandchildren. They were her heart. She was preceded in death by her father, Hoyt Hollis; mother, Nell Hollis; father-in-law, Calvin Gladden; mother-in-law, Audrey Gladden; 2 brothers, Richard Tucker and Forrest Tucker; and 2 sisters, Christine Adcock and Betty Lou Kimbril. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mike D. Gladden; son, Michael J. (Andrea) Gladden; daughter, Ana (Mauricio) Betancourt; chosen daughter, Lorena (Oscar) Moreno; sister, Barbara Corella (Sammy); brothers, Eugene (Pat) Hollis and Lamar (Charlotte) Hollis; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; her precious grandchildren who she cherished, Lexi (Wes) Hammett, Savanah Gladden, Hayley Gladden, Trevor Gladden, Miranda Hughes, Sofia and Maria Betancourt, and Sarah and Miguel Moreno; 2 great-grandsons, Layne and Mason; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special life-long friends, Dianne and Leonard Ridout, Shirley and Calvin Caldwell, Kathy “Sista” Skelton, and Brenda Hayes; and many other special friends. Pallbearers will be Jonathon Gladden, Terry Adcock, Shawn Corella, John Estes, Steve Bryant, and Trevor and Savanah Gladden. Special thanks to the staffs of Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home, Crestwood Funeral Home, Village Chapel Funeral Home, Collier Butler Funeral Home, Williams Southside Funeral Home, and Morgan Funeral Home; to the nurses and staffs of Gadsden Regional 7th Floor South and UAB; to Dr. Molly Deshazo, Dr. Amin, Dr. Wesley, Dr. Terry Perry; and a very special thank you to her doctor and very special friend, Dr. Alberto and Kathy Echeverri. She loved Alberto very much. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 PM.
