Mrs. Betty Jean Cromer

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday August 9, 2021, at Village Chapel, for Betty Jean St. John Cromer, age 85, of Gadsden, who passed away Thursday August 5, 2021. Pastor Tommy Marshall and Chaplain Shawn Sims will officiate. Burial will take place at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Betty was employed by Anderson Shoes and Boots in 1975 by the late Marell and Frances Anderson, where she continued to work for their daughter Tammy Anderson Allen until she retired in 2013 after 38 years of service. She was not just an employee of the Andersons, she was family. She loved Tammy and her children, Hayley Norman and Miller Furhman as if they were hers and they grew up knowing and loving her as their Granny. Betty had a love for people and never met a stranger. She had a special bond with her family and neighbors; Peggy Sparkman and the late Earley and Dot Taylor and a 60 year friendship with Hazel Brothers and family. Betty grew up in church all of her life, had a love for playing the piano, and did so many years in church. She was a member of the Assembly of God Tabernacle, a charter member of Life Church and was attending The Tabernacle until her health declined. Mrs. Cromer was preceded in death by her husband, Eulas Cromer; parents, Erma and Andrew St. John; sons-in-law, Larry Griffith, Paul Chamblee, Chris McGowan; grandson, Bradley Andrew Adams; great granddaughter, Kortney Blake Patton; brothers, Leonard and Joe St. John; sisters, Edna Speakman, Ruby Prickett, Mary Griffith; special sister- in- law, Clara McGowan; mother-in-law, Minda Cromer. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Griffith, Sherry McGowan (Tony Pearson), Felecia (Eddie) Jenkins, Rachel (Scott) Parham; grandchildren, Patrick (Jackie) McGowan, Stacy (Justin) Busby, Stephanie (Dan) Hall, Shay (Jon) Patton, Christy McGowan and fiancé Eric Driskell, Amy (Justin) Pryor, Blake (Angelina) Parham, Cody McGowan and fiancé Josh Cowan, Daniel (Lane) Chamblee, Ashley (Mark) Edwards and Austin Jenkins; great grandchildren, Brandon, Lynsey, McKenzie, Kaytlin, Lucas, Jacob, Jordyn, McKenna, Lily, C.J., Mason, Olivia, Carter, Leah, Madisyn, Nick, Keira, Jamison, and Madison; chosen children, Frank Martin, Dale Price, Ricky Price, Pam Griffith, Angie Hindman, Ralph Davis, Kim Malcom, Pam (Robert) Washington; chosen adopted grandson, Bryan Holbrooks. Pallbearers will be Patrick, Cody, and Brandon McGowan, Blake Parham, Daniel Chamblee, Justin Busby, Justin Pryor, Jon Patton, Eric Driskill, Dan Hall, Frank Martin, Dale Price, Ricky Price, and Ralph Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Oluwole Akisanya, Dr. Shawnta Anakwah, Dr. Alberto Echeverri, Dr. Peter Szeto, Dr. Bryan McGwier and Jennifer Patterson, CRNP. The family wishes to express a special thanks to First Care Medical and staff, Hematology and Oncology Associates and staff, Southern Care New Beacon Hospice and staff, nurses, Glenda Hester and Shirley Headrick and caregiver, Leah Harris. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8pm at the funeral home.
