Anna "Ann" Yates

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Village Chapel for Anna “Ann” Yates, 97, of Attalla, who died Sunday, January 14, 2024. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Shane Roye will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro, GA. Ann was born July 15, 1926, in Blum, Texas. She was a very kind, caring person, who loved and cherished her family, all of her brothers and sisters, and friends. She was a natural caregiver and a very generous, thoughtful person to everyone she met. She loved animals and nature, and she enjoyed camping, being with her family and friends, and meeting people. She was a hard worker. She lost her mother at a young age, but helped out with caring for her younger siblings, whom she loved so dearly. All of her family have a close bond with one another. She retired from Arrow Shirt Factory in Atlanta, GA, where she worked as an inspector. Later she worked in a chiropractor’s office as a licensed massage therapist, but her most rewarding job was working at a hospital as a nurse assistant, where she helped many people. She moved to Attalla when her husband retired. Then she helped out in hospitality at a nursing home, where she enjoyed reading and spending time with everyone there. She always was thankful and said how she was truly blessed. Everyone who knew her was truly blessed also. She was a ray of sunshine and encouragement to us all. She was very much loved and left so many precious memories behind that her loved ones can cherish. Mrs. Yates was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Rocky Yates; mother, Mollie Alice Kuykendall Roye; stepmother, Arveda Roye; father, John Newton Roye; sisters, Mary Millikan and Ruth Prince; brothers, Carl Roye and John Roye; and son-in-law, Arvel James McElroy. She is survived by her son, Danny (Gail) Yates; daughter, Donna Sue McElroy; grandchildren, Lawana (Todd) Welch, Pam (Gary) Nelson, Sherry (Darrell) Hart, and Danny (Micki) Yates Jr.; great-grandchildren, Logan Welch, Hailey Yates, and Roman Yates; great-great-grandchild, Aubrey Yates; brothers, J.P. (Kay) Caldwell, Rex (Joy) Roye, Gary Don (Janice) Roye; sister, Janice Pruitt; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Roxanne Travelute for many years of compassion and care, Candi Morgan, her hairdresser and friend, who kept her looking nice for so many years, and also to the family and friends for all of their loving support.
