Mr. Luther Davis Carroll Jr.

Mr. Luther Davis Carroll Jr., 90, went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2021 in Gadsden, Alabama after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Davis Carroll Sr., his mother Ethel Carroll, his beloved daughter Lynnette Carroll, and brother James Carroll. Mr. Carroll was born and raised in Man, West Virginia and was a resident of Rainbow City, Alabama. A wonderful Christian, devoted husband, loving father, and US Army and US Air Force veteran, he loved the Lord, his family and his country with all of his heart. He was a member of Malone Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at numerous churches throughout his life. He was a retired toolmaker from Alabama Tool and Die where he worked for 35 years. He loved his native West Virginia and worked in the coal mines as an electrician for 14 years before moving to Alabama. Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife of 67 years and the love of his life, Mrs. Lola (Reedy) Carroll of Rainbow City; 3 sons, Rev. David (Sharlene) Carroll, Michael (Nancy) Carroll, and Jonathan (Deborah) Carroll; sisters Sue (Gary) Ford of Gadsden and Trilby Farley of Pocatello, Idaho; grandchildren Heather Carroll, KC (Joseph Huff) Carroll, Amy (Don) Bennett, Tammy (Chris) Payne, Matthew Carroll, Miranda (John) Barrington, Marc Carroll; great grandchildren McKenzie Farlow, Tanner (Taylor) Carroll, Carson Payne, Presley Payne, Timothy Curvin, Paul Bennett, Taylor Barrington, and Lily Barrington; great-great grandchildren Carson Tucker and Brycen Carroll; and a host of nieces and nephews. Affectionately known as “Bear” by his family and friends, Mr. Carroll was the epitome of the Christian family man and gentleman. He was Lola’s Prince Charming who bought her red roses for every occasion. His Bible was his most prized possession and he read it every day. Under his sometimes gruff exterior, he was one of the most kind, generous and loving men to ever walk the face of the earth. There is nothing he wouldn’t do to help those in need, and he was always ready with a set of tools and a cup of coffee to lend a hand. Visitation will be from 1 pm to 3 pm on Thursday July 15 at Village Chapel Funeral Home in Gadsden, Alabama and the funeral service will take place at 3 pm. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Peck’s Mill, West Virginia on Saturday July 17 (because daddy always told us “don’t you dare bury me in this red Alabama gumbo soil”).
