Mrs. Christine C. Yarbrough

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, May 10th at Village Chapel for Christine Yarbrough, age 92, Southside, who died Thursday, May 6, 2021. Rev. Bobby Bryant will officiate. Burial will follow at Forrest Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Christine Yarbrough, was born on November 14, 1928 to Ralph Emmanuel and Lela Pearl Cannon. She attended Dwight Elementary School, St. James Catholic School, and Emma Sansom High School. She began working at the Dwight Manufacturing Company cotton mill at the age of 14. On October 11, 1945 she married Albert Edward Yarbrough after knowing him for only two weeks. They were happily married for 56 years. She was the PTA President at Dwight Elementary School and won many 1st place awards at several National Conventions for her intricate scrapbooks. She was an amazing cook and always made sure that she had plenty of food for anyone who may come by her house hungry. In 1973, she founded Christi’s Bridal on Wall Street in Alabama City. She was a very talented floral designer, decorator, and wedding director. She handcrafted the most beautiful bows and shared her floral designing talents with others by teaching classes at Gadsden State Technical Institute. She took great pride in her work and enjoyed helping thousands of couples on their special wedding day. Christine was a devout Christian who devoted much of her time and God-given talents to her church, Lookout Avenue Baptist Church. She was a charter member and served in the choir, WMU, GA’s, Lottie Moon Mission, and VBS. She was the Sunday School Director for many, many years. Even in sickness, she was a faithful steward. She was steadfast in her faith. Christine knew the power of prayer. She led many beautiful, heartfelt prayers throughout her lifetime. She loved to take cruises and travel abroad to places such as England and France. She also loved her trips to the Biltmore House. In her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel, eating potato chips with Hersey’s chocolate bars, and solving word finds. Oftentimes, she would say “Lord, you can take this old body, but please don’t take my mind.” The Lord blessed her with a resilient mind and an impeccable memory. She loved her family, friends, and church with all of her heart. She will be greatly missed. We find peace and comfort in knowing that she is where she longed to be... in the arms of Jesus. Christine was preceded in death by her husband Albert E. Yarbrough; son, David E. Yarbrough; infant son, Sammy Ray Yarbrough; parents, Ralph Emmanuel and Lela Pearl Cannon; brothers, Robert E. (Lucille), Frank, and Max (Frances) Cannon; sister, Marguerite (Tommy) Strickland; and sister-in-law, Katie Cannon. Mrs. Yarbrough is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Boley and Tina (Max) Hammonds; grandchildren, David M. Yarbrough, Leslie (Adam) Peek, Jenny (Jason) Coker, Blake (April) Hammonds, Kristi (Joseph) Owens, Jana (Vinnie) Dupree; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Troy Peek, Dallas and Alaina Gregerson, Brandon and Nathan Hammonds, D’Marcus, Dalton, Drake, and Jayleigh Dupree, Emma Grace and Rhett Owens; brothers, Ralph E. Cannon and Delmous (Sherry) Cannon; sister, Mary Ann (Cakie) Hare; sisters-in-law, Iva Pearl Gaylor, Phyllis Cannon, and Kathryn Cannon; forever daughter-in-law, Debra Herrera; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, David Yarbrough, Blake Hammonds, Adam Peek, Jason Coker, Joseph Owens, and Vinnie Dupree Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Tristan Peek, D’Marcus Dupree, Dallas Gregerson, Dalton McGraw, Brandon Hammonds, Drake Dupree, Nathan Hammonds, Troy Peek, and Rhett Owens. Special thanks to Southside Medical Clinic, Kindred Home Health (Sarah, Morgan, Hannah, and Tammy), 8th Floor Nursing Staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Caregivers Mary Jemison and Patricia Hammonds, and her longtime beautician and friend Deanna Jennings. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Monday at Village Chapel.
